Our first MUNY hit

Right off the bat let me say that I left our permit sitting at home on my desk so that’s not too auspicious. I’m here far too early and I’m sitting with my back up against this here hudson news stand. As far as asthetics and conducive environments, this is very, very different than central park. Wish us luck with the police. We’re on in 55 minutes and of course that’s not enough time to make it home and back.

After chilling here for about half an hour, I can say that the acoustics aren’t too bad. We won’t have to play too loud and it doesn’t smell nor is it atrociously hot.

I went up and talked to the cops so maybe that will help.

Back home now and I can say that I think that this is a pretty good spot. We did better than I expected. The percentage was high on one dollar bills and fairly low on CD purchases but many many people expressed their appreciation in George Washington form.

People gather in this spot anyway to look at track postings. The area is not huge and I was able to reach everyone assembled there (probably about 60-100 at a time). When a track posting comes up everyone will just bolt out of there. It was very unmusical timing. Just as a phrase or a section of a song was gearing up for a resolution everyone would just split. When we were calling tunes, Stefan had the insight that we needed to keep things upbeat and major. From Stefan, this is a shocking statement… “Yeah, people down here are actually unhappy people it seems. We need to cheer them up.” I guess the upper east side doesn’t need as much cheering up…

Overall, I think it is one of the better spots I’ve played in the subways and would play there again without hesitation.

  1. Hi, just want to say my children and I caught you at Alice last Monday and really loved your music. We bought both CD’s. We’re in NY visiting from Montreal. Thursday is our last day here, and we’ll make sure to come over and listen to you guys one more time before we leave 🙂
